Before your session
Once we have booked your Family session in the diary, we will decide on a location together. It can either be at your home or at a beautiful outdoor location (if it rains, no worries, we can always reschedule!) I will give you a call about 10 days before your session, discuss outfits and what to bring to the shoot. We can also talk about what is important for you to capture in the session.
The best time to have your Newborn Session, would ideally be one week after giving birth. It is best to book your session when you are still pregnant. This always varies of course, you might have given birth and find that a photo session will be too much for you. Don't worry about it, we can always reschedule for when you are feeling up for it. Usually, I find that most families are happy to go ahead with the date we have booked together (unless the baby is not born yet!). I will give you advice on what to wear and what to gather for the photo shoot.
During your session
I will spend about an hour or two with your family. I never rush my sessions so if you have shy little ones, don't worry, I will always give them lots of time to play and relax in front of the camera. Don't worry about what to do or how you will look (mums are often self-critical!), I have plenty of expertise on good lighting and will direct you on what to do. My style is natural lifestyle photography, so I will direct you initially but will let the session unfold organically. For example, we usually play games with your little ones and the photo session will be a great outing for everyone. Just relax and let me do the work!
For Newborn Sessions, it would be ideal if you could feed your baby before I arrive so that he/she is happy and satisfied. Make sure your newborn is wearing something you like or if you prefer, only in a nappy and wrapped in a nice blanket. During our time together, I will go with the flow, so if your baby needs more feeding or changing, that will be no problem at all. I will typically spend about 2 to 3 hours with you. I will bring some nice blankets with me but I usually tend to use what you have at your home. I keep my newborn shoots very natural, if your baby wants to be held, I will do family pictures and if your baby is happy and asleep I will do some individual pictures, details of little hands and feet. Again, please don't worry about what to do in the pictures or how you will look, I will direct you and choose the best lighting in your home.
After your session
After your session, I will go back and make a selection of your best images (about 50 to 80 images), I will edit them and upload them to a private online gallery. I will leave the gallery live for you for one week, this should give you enough time to decide what you would like to order from the gallery.
